For those who care, LucasArts has recently announced that the second Sam & Max game has been cancelled. Yup, Sam & Max sequel cancelled and two-hundred fans cry out in outrage.

"Well boo-frickety-hoo" - Dr. Evil, AP3

I have been a fan of adventure games for a long time now, the original 320x200 Sam & Max game is one of my favourites. But I'd have to agree with LucasArts on this one, this isn't the right time to release an adventure game for the PC. To put it simply, commercial adventures these days suck. If it's not some LotR clone, it's a game full of puzzles where you have to distract the bartender by asking him to make you a large drink.

I'm sorry, but I just didn't have enough confidence in the guys at LucasArts to believe that they can produce an adventure game worth playing, let alone pay for the bloody thing. I should also say that I'm the proud owner of the great Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, I'm playing through that game for the third time now. The truth is that nobody has time to sit through an adventure game anymore. I love adventure games, but I'd much rather start up a quick game of Vice City or NFS : Underground to pass a spare half hour that I may have. I wish I had the time, but I don't.

On the off chance that I do have an inordinate amount of time on my hands, I choose to play non-commercial adventure games like Out of Order or the brilliant 5 Days a Stranger.
